ORGANIC FARMING

Why is supporting organic farms and sustainable farming methods so important to us?

Organic practices not only protect the health of the environment, but improve it by utilizing time honored traditions along with new technology to grow foods without the use of toxic chemicals. Organic farming does not use harmful pesticides and herbicides that harm the soil, water table, insects, birds, and food chain at large. By not utilizing harmful chemicals, organic farming helps to protect farm workers & their families, workers in the culinary industry, and consumers. We also believe that species diversity and clean water are cornerstones of a sustainable food system. According to the organic trade association, organic farming as compared to industrial farming has been proven to increase species diversity by 30% and pollinator diversity by 50%.

Superfood Blueberries Month

INGREDIENTS

HONEY

Organic honey is a challenging ingredient to source. The honey bees generally forage for nectar within a two mile radius of the honey comb but can travel twice that distance in times of scarcity or drought. Because of the proliferation of pesticides on our farms and in the environment, it is very hard to find a place for a beekeeper to keep their hives with out exposure to chemicals. For this reason we have teamed up with a company that works directly with small beekeepers in the Amazon and has strict ethical and sustainability guidelines.

Hemp Seeds in a bowl for Hemp History Week

HEMP

Many of our products contain hemp seeds for their added nutritional value of protein, fatty acids, and fiber. This densely nutritious food is an excellent addition to plant based diets. Hemp seeds are derived from the cannabis sativa plant and have no psychoactive effects. The hemp seeds that we use are third party tested to ensure this. They are certified organically grown and processed in the U.S.

Ocean Ranch Organics OAT

OATS

Oats are the cornerstone of our granola and hot cereal line, so we are sure to source the best oats we can buy. That is why we have chosen to work with a miller who has been in the business for 33 years and is focused on creating a bridge between farmers and bakers. Our organic oats are grown on farms in the Pacific Northwest and the Midwest. Oats are high in fiber, contain more protein and fat than most grains, and are high in minerals and vitamins.
